QMJHL announces the Kevin-Lowe Trophy finalists
The QMJHL continues to honour its own through the Golden Puck Awards. Today, the finalists for the Kevin-Lowe Trophy, presented to the Top Defensive Defenseman.
The finalists are:
Alex Carr, Rouyn-Noranda Huskies
In his third full season with the Huskies, Carr set personal marks with 61 games played, 7 goals, 24 assists and 31 points. More importantly, he finished second in the QMJHL with a +55 differential (tied with Mikaël Diotte), even though he faced the best opposing forwards night after night.
Mikaël Diotte, Drummondville Voltigeurs
Like Carr, Diotte finished second in the QMJHL with a +55 rating. Only Justin Gill of the Drakkar did better with +57. The four-season veteran also set personal bests with 12 goals, 30 assists and 42 points. His excellent overall play convinced the New Jersey Devils to give him an NHL entry-level contract.
Pier-Olivier Roy, Victoriaville Tigres
In his fourth season in Victoriaville, Roy stepped his game up on the Tigres’ blue line, collecting 50 points in 66 games, including a personal-best 10 goals. His closest pursuer among Tigres’ defensemen finished with 28 points. The veteran blueliner finished the campaign with an excellent +37 differential.
