Veilleux and Bourdon win TELUS player of the week awards
BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, January 14, 2008 Rimouski Océanic forward Keven Veilleux and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies defenseman Marc-André Bourdon today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from January 7 to 13, 2008. It is the second consecutive week that Bourdon has received defensive player of the week honours.
In three contests – all wins – the Huskies blueliner registered four points, including two goals on nine shots, while maintaining a +4 rating. Bourdon also collected four bodychecks. The defenseman helped the Huskies earn victories over the Foreurs, the Wildcats and the Rocket. In the tightest of the three contests, he scored the game-tying goal in a come-from-behind win over the Moncton Wildcats. The Rouyn-Noranda defence allowed only three power-play goals in twenty-three opportunities (87%). They sit atop the TELUS division standings with 65 points tied with Baie-Comeau.
Goaltenders Marco Cousineau (2-1; 185 MIN; 1.95 GAA; .938 SAV %) of Baie-Comeau and Kevin Desfossés (1-1; 118 MIN; 2.02 GAA; .940 SAV %) of Quebec, as well as defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk (0-4-4; +5) of Halifax were also considered.
The offensive player of the week award goes to Rimouski Océanic forward Keven Veilleux. In three Océanic wins, Veilleux collected two goals and six helpers while maintaining an impressive +6 rating. He helped Rimouski defeat the Saguenéens and the Fog Devils (2). Veilleux enjoyed his best outing of the week on Thursday, versus the Saguenéens, scoring one goal and assisting on two others in a 4-3 win. Moreover, he was named the game’s first star. Since being traded to the Océanic, the 6’5 forward has collected eleven points in five games.
Jakub Voracek (3-5-8) and Andrew White (6-0-6) of Halifax, as well as Bradley Gallant (4-2-6) of PEI were also considered.
