(LONGUEUIL, Tuesday March 23, 2004) -The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League issued today its last attendance report of the 2003- 2004 season, as at March 14, 2004.
The 560 game regular season has ended and the QMJHL had a total attendance of 1,746,532 hockey fans or 43,023 more spectators that the previous season. These statistics show an average of 3,119 spectators per game that is 161 more per game in comparison with 2002-2003. This is a new record for the QMJHL since the previous best average stood at 3,054 in 1999-2000. This sixth report indicates an increase of attendance for eight teams of the Courteau circuit.
After 35 games played at home, the eight teams having registered an increase in comparison with 2002-2003 are: the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles with 125,305 spectators: (+8,453), the Chicoutimi Sagueneens with 78,403 spectators (+2,708), the Drummondville Voltigeurs with 55,319 spectators (+4,950), the Gatineau Olympiques with 104,551 spectators (+8,331), the PEI Rocket with 111,916 spectators (+59,540), the Quebec Remparts with 207,661 spectators (+12,723), the Rimouski Oceanic with 157,539 spectators (+21,243) and the Lewiston MAINEiacs with 73,584 spectators (+6 695).

The Quebec Remparts greeted the largest crowd of the season with 15,333 spectators on February 17 when the Rimouski Oceanic visited. The Quebec Remparts beat their previous total attendance record of 194,938 spectators registered at the end of the 2002-2003 with a total attendance of 207,661 spectators this season. The Screaming Eagles also beat their previous season record of 116,852 spectators to total this year 125,305 fans at the Centre 200 in Sydney. Eight crowds over 10,000 spectators gathered this season: six of them in Quebec to see the Remparts and the two others in Halifax to watch the Mooseheads. When analyzing the table of each team’s best crowds, Rimouski and Baie-Comeau share the honours of having attracted an equal number of fans. Both teams registered this exploit as they were paying one of their four visits of the season to the Lewiston MAINEiacs. In every other cities of the circuit, Rimouski won with flying colours the title of the « Team having attracted the best crowds » in 2003-04. Quite obviously, whenever the Rimouski Oceanic took the road, nowhere did the hockey fans miss the opportunity to see the phenomenon play and the team thus kept the best attendance average of 5,040 fans per game when visiting. Rimouski is immediately followed by Baie-Comeau with 3,485, Cape Breton with 3,434 and Chicoutimi with 3,382.
