Rocket Drop Game 3 to Shawinigan
The PEI Rocket could not muster any offence to get them off the ground in Game 3 of their first-round playoff series with the Shawinigan Cataractes.
Shawinigan won the game 3-0 Tuesday night, taking the series lead 2-1 and ensuring another long bus ride to Quebec for the Rocket, if they aim to win the series.
Anton Zlobin opened the scoring in the first period, banging a rebound past Evan Mosher for his third goal in as many games.
Offensive blueliner Ryan Kavanagh staked the Cataractes to a 2-0 lead on a powerplay late in the second period, with Olivier Croteau in the box for holding.
In the third period, with a checking from behind penalty to Jimmy Oligny just expiring, Yannick Vellieux snapped a long wrist shot past Mosher to put Shawinigan up 3-0.
And that’s how it ended.
Shawinigan out shot PEI 33-28, with goalie Gabriel Girard picked up his first shutout of the postseason.
PEI’s best chance came in the first period, when a 2-on-1 between Samuel Morneau and Andrej Nestrasil ended with the Czech winger hitting the post.
Shawinigan went 1-for-6 on the powerplay, while the Rocket was 0-for-5.
The Rocket’s first playoff home game was attended by 2,255.
Game 4 goes tomorrow at 7 p.m.
