The 2015 Sherbrooke Draft Is Almost Here!

As announced last September, the Sherbrooke Phoenix Hockey Club will host the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) Draft for a second consecutive year. The organizing committee for the 2015 Sherbrooke Draft took advantage of the last home game between the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and the Sherbrooke Phoenix to officially launch the event to be held from June 2-6, 2015 in Sherbrooke. The week of activities will culminate on Saturday, June 6th with the 2015 QMJHL Draft, which will take place at the Palais des Sports Leopold-Drolet beginning at 10:00 a.m. This flagship league event will be open to the public, free of charge. Below are details on the members of the organizing committee, the winners of the GM For a Day contest and ways of staying informed.

 

Organizing Committee

The organizing committee for the 2015 Sherbrooke Draft has been hard at work in recent months getting ready to host this prestigious event for the second year in a row. Again this year, the chairman of the hosting committee is Sherbrooke business leader Jacques Fortier. He is supported in his role by Sherbrooke Phoenix Executive Director Sylvie Fortier, who coordinates the committee’s activities. Here are the other members of the organizing committee:

Mario Aube and Denis Bourque, shareholders of the Sherbrooke Phoenix, represent the team’s board of directors on the 2015 Sherbrooke Draft organizing committee. “The 2015Sherbrooke Draft organizing committee is very proud to have earned the confidence of the QMJHL for a second year in a row,” stated Jacques Fortier, president of the 2015 Sherbrooke Draft organizing committee. “For the 2014 edition, our objective was to create a unique and memorable eventand we can say ‘mission accomplished’. The 2015Sherbrooke Draft organizing committee is very excited to welcome the QMJHL head office, the seventeen other organizations, the players that are potential draft picks, along with their families, and the citizens of Sherbrooke. Thanks to this major event, the city of Sherbrooke and the Sherbrooke Phoenix organization will undoubtedly gain visibility in Quebec, the Maritimes as well as the northeastern United States,” continued Fortier.

 

GM for a Day Contest 

As planned, on March 2nd, the 2015 Sherbrooke Draft organizing committee selected the 18 children aged 9 to 13 that will have the honour of being GMs For a Day. As chance would have it, 8 of the 18 GMs For a Day arefrom the Estrie region, while the remaining 10 are from outside the region. Four girls and 14 boys will have the chance to go on stage to present the jersey and hat to the first pick of the team they will be representing. Furthermore, the organizing committee is very pleased with the keen interest generated by the contest. Thanks to the collaboration of the QMJHL teams, about 200 young people from Quebec and the Maritimes entered the contest via the Sherbrooke Phoenix website. Here’s the complete list of winners:
