Quick hits with Rimouski Océanic rookie Jordan Caron
BOUCHERVILLE, Saturday, February 17, 2007 This week, the official website of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League presents an interview with Rimouski Océanic rookie forward Jordan Caron.
You’re a sixteen year-old going through your first season in the QMJHL. Is it like you thought it would be?
"I'd have to say yes. I was pretty sure the players in the 'Q' would be stronger and faster. I attended a few games last year, so I knew what to expect. Therefore, I tried to prepare as best I could."
The team is enjoying its best stretch of the season, at one point, winning six straight games. Why the sudden success?
"The guys really came together. We realized that we had a chance to make the playoffs since we’re in striking distance of the Cataractes. Everybody is working towards the same goal."
What's been the main focus of the coaching staff during practices?
"Special teams. With the new officiating standards, it’s important to be able to score on the powerplay. We’ve been having trouble in that department all season. We have to improve."
What do you think is your best asset?
"I don’t think I excel in one particular area. I think I’m good at a lot of things. I have good qualities in the offensive zone and I play well defensively."
How have you managed to consolidate your studies with hockey?
"It’s been fine. I play for a great organization. Their academic consultant gives us a hand with our schedules, which helps us maximize our study time. It makes everything much easier. Some road trips are harder than others, but all in all, it hasn’t been a hassle."
