Quick hits with Maxime Sauvé
BOUCHERVILLE, Saturday, November 29, 2008 – This week, the official website of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League sits down with Val-d’Or Foreurs forward Maxime Sauvé.
Tell us a little bit about your first experience as a member of Team QMJHL at the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge.
"It was a great hockey experience to go up against the Russians and, at the same time, it’s important because it’s meant to be a mini-camp for the Under-20 National Team. I really enjoyed playing with guys like Yann Sauvé and Nicolas Deschamps whom are old friends of mine. I had a great time."
How would you compare the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge to the CHL/NHL Home Hardware Top Prospects game in which you played earlier this year?
"Well, it’s not the same style of hockey. When I played in the Top Prospects game, it was more of the traditional style of Canadian hockey whereas the Russians rely more on their talent and individual skill sets."
You’ve scored 12 goals in your last 14 contests. What turned things around for you after a slow start
"At the beginning of the season, I was trying too hard to score goals. At some point, I just convinced myself to go back to the basics. I started playing my game and everything fell right back into place."
What do you want to emphasize for the remainder of the 2008-2009 season?
"One of my goals is to get better in my own end."
Are you going to approach your next pro camp with the Boston Bruins (Maxime was a 2nd round selection at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft) any differently now that you have gone through the experience once?
"When I arrived at Boston’s camp, I really didn’t know what to expect. Next year, my goal is to go to training camp and make the team. Hopefully, things will go my way. Rest assured that I will work extremely hard to earn a spot on the roster."
