Quick hits with Gatineau Olympiques goaltender Ryan Mior
BOUCHERVILLE, Saturday, January 12, 2008 This week, the official website of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League presents an interview with the new all-time leader in games played (223) at the goaltender position, Ryan Mior (Jacques Cloutier played in 222 games with the Trois-Rivières Draveurs in the late 1970’s).
When you began your major junior hockey career, did you ever think that you would reach such an important milestone?
"I never believed that anything like this would happen. Year after year, game after game, I just kept reaching different stages, and now I’ve played in over 220 games in the QMJHL."
You’re one shutout away from surpassing the all-time record held by Adam Russo (13). Is it something that you’ve been aiming for this season?
"I had thought about it, but it wasn’t a goal of mine. I didn’t want to put any added pressure which could influence the way I played, but it would be great if I managed to pull it off. I would be very proud."
What would you say are your best attributes as a goaltender?
"I think my greatest strengths are my positioning and my ability to react to the play."
Seeing as this is your final season in the QMJHL, what are your plans for next season?
"I plan on attending a University next year. For the moment, I don’t really know where or in what field, but I’m leaning toward a degree in business administration. One thing’s for sure, I want to play University hockey."
How much have you enjoyed playing for the Olympiques?
"I really liked playing here and I love the city, which is right next to Ottawa. We have an excellent team, a great coach and I’ve made a lot of friends. I plan on establishing myself in Gatineau once my playing days are over."
