QMJHL Roundup: Sea Dogs weather the storm in 6-5 shootout win over Titan
BATHURST, N.B. — The Saint John Sea Dogs let a big third-period lead slip away before rebounding to beat the Acadie-Bathurst Titan 6-5 in a shootout in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Tuesday.
Mathieu Joseph scored the winning shootout to cap a wild game.
Saint John led 4-1 entering the third, but the Titan tied it with three goals in the first 10:30 of the period.
The Sea Dogs went ahead again with less than five minutes to go in regulation on Sam Povorozniouk’s power-play goal, but the Titian sent it to overtime when Christophe Boivin scored with the man advantage with six seconds remaining.
Adam Marsh, Nathan Noel, Spencer Smallman and Alex Martineau also scored for the Sea Dogs (21-13-3).
Jeffrey Truchon-Viel, Andrew Cordssen-David, Vladimir Kuznetsov and Mark Trickett provided the rest of the offence for the Titan (14-19-4).
Alex Bishop made 35 saves for the Sea Dogs, then stopped two of three shots he faced in the shootout.
Reilly Pickard stopped 43 shots for the Sea Dogs, but gave up shootout goals to Joseph and Povorozniouk.
The Sea Dogs scored on three of six power-play attempts, while the Titan went 3-for-5.
Screaming Eagles 6 Mooseheads 4
SYDNEY, N.S. — Pierre-Luc Dubois had three goals and two assists to lead Cape Breton over Halifax.
Michael Joly had two goals and two assists for the Screaming Eagles (20-16-3), while Duncan MacIntyre added an empty-netter.
Arnaud Durandeau, Andrew Shewfelt, Otto Somppi and Ben Higgins scored for Halifax (12-20-5).
Remparts 6 Drakkar 4
QUEBEC CITY — Matthew Boucher scored two of Quebec’s third-period goals as the Remparts came back to defeat Baie-Comeau.
Zachary Moodie also scored twice for Quebec (22-13-3). Lucas Thierus and Bronson Beaton also scored.
Fabrizio Rizzi and Matt Jones each scored twice for Baie-Comeau (5-27-2).
Oceanic 4 Cataractes 3
RIMOUSKI, Que. — Tyler Boland and Dylan Montcalm scored the tying and winning goals 28 seconds apart in the third period as the Oceanic beat Shawinigan.
Alexandre Grise and Samuel Laberge had the other goals for Rimouski (21-11-4).
Brandon Gignac, Alex Pawelczyk and Dennis Yan scored for Shawinigan (22-11-3).
