Perreault and Nadeau win player of the week awards
BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, September 25, 2006 Forward Mathieu Perreault of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and goaltender Bobby Nadeau of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens were named offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from September 18 to 24.
In two games, Perreault scored four goals and accumulated six assists, while maintaining a +6 (plus/minus) differential. Against the Sea Dogs last Friday, he collected one goal and four helpers in an 8-4 victory. Then, the following night versus the Fog Devils, the Titan forward netted his first career hat-trick in a 7-3 win. Perreault and his teammate Thomas Beauregard are at the top of the QMJHL scoring standings with twelve points each.
Alexandre Picard-Hooper (2-4-6) of Baie-Comeau, Pierre-Luc Faubert (5-0-5) of Lewiston and Thomas Beauregard (4-3-7) of Acadie-Bathurst were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to veteran goaltender Bobby Nadeau. In two road games, the Saguenéens backstop helped his team collect three out of four points in the standings thanks to one win and one shootout loss. During that span, he maintained a 1.92 goals-against-average and a .944 save percentage. Last Friday, Nadeau was stellar while making forty saves to lead his team to a 3-2 win over the Quebec Remparts. Yesterday, he made twenty-eight stops in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Gatineau Olympiques. Moreover, he was named the game’s third star in both contests.
The other players considered for the defensive player of the week award were defensemen Nathan Welton (2-6-8; -1) of Moncton and Martin Fréchette (0-6-6; +1) of Gatineau and goaltender Raffaele D’Orso (2-0-0; 120 MP; 2.50 GAA; .922 SAV %) of Val-d’Or.
