Interview with Titan forward Mathieu Roy
BOUCHERVILLE, Saturday, May 6, 2006 (QMJHL) – This week, the official Website of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League www.lhjmq.qc.ca presents an interview with Acadie-Bathurst Titan forward Mathieu Roy.
Last October, you played in your 150th consecutive game, thus trailing only Brent Aubin, now with the Quebec Remparts. How did you react to the accomplishment?
"I was really pleased, especially since I was only behind Brent, who I had the opportunity to play with during my Midget AAA days."
You’ve been in the Q since 2003. Have you noticed a significant change in the style of play since the application of the new officiating standards?
"The new standards have really opened up the game. There are more power plays, thus more goal scoring. I think it’s a reason why so many guys have reached the 100 point plateau this year. Personally, it’s good for my game, since I’m known as a power play specialist."
What are your subsequent plans following your major junior career?
"For now, my priority is playing to the best of my abilities, while finishing my career on the highest note possible. I’ll decide sometime down the road what my next steps will be."
For most of the regular season, you were amongst the fifteen best scorers in the League. What was the secret to your success this year?
"I believe I’ve got a decent shot and good foot speed. Also, we have a really good team. The guys I play with are very talented, which helps me put more points on the board!"
Who are your biggest rivals?
"Ever since I’ve been here, our rivalry with Moncton has been the most intense. It’s like the battle of New-Brunswick. The fans are divided, but they’re really into it. When the two teams meet, it gets pretty intense."
