HAL vs SHA: Game 7 tonight at 7pm et
The QMJHL President Cup first round playoff series between your Halifax Mooseheads and the Shawinigan Cataractes will come to an end tonight at Centre Gervais Auto when the two clubs face off at 8pm AST.
Aside from Sunday’s 6-1 victory for the Cats, this has been an incredibly close series with four games decided by just one goal including Shawinigan’s overtime win in Game 3 and Halifax’s double OT victory in Game 5.
Tonight’s series conclusion can be seen on the QMJHL webcast or you can listen along to the play by play of John Moore on News 95.7.
The Mooseheads will not have the services of Brandon Vuic who received a one-game suspension for his actions in Sunday’s loss. Sam LeBlanc will miss his third consecutive game with an upper body injury.
Halifax will look to playoff scoring leader Nikolaj Ehlers (13 points) and linemates Danny Moynihan and Timo Meier to guide the offense. Moynihan has a league best five power play goals, while the Herd lead the QMJHL playoffs in scoring with the man advantage at 35.7%.
Christophe Lalonde leads the Cataractes in points with nine assists, while Dennis Yan has six goals.
The Mooseheads have racked up the most penalty minutes in the league with 116 during the postseason so the team will need to stay out of the box in order to be successful tonight in Shawinigan.
There is one other Game 7 on tap this evening in Quebec where the Remparts will host the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. If Halifax wins tonight and Quebec beats Cape Breton than the Mooseheads would face Moncton in the second round. If Halifax and Cape Breton both win tonight than the Herd would meet Val d’Or in round two.
