Farrell, Screaming Eagles down Titan
SYDNEY – Kyle Farrell had a goal and two assists leading the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles to a 7-1 victory over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at Centre 200 on Friday.
Loïk Léveillé, Bradley Lalonde, Maxim Lazarev, Evgeny Svechnikov, Alexandre Gosselin and Jacob Smith scored single markers for the Screaming Eagles, who improve to 22-23-2-3 on the season.
Jordan Maher had the lone goal for the Titan, who fall to 14-34-4-2 on the year.
The Screaming Eagles got the scoring start at 13:25 of the first period as Loïk Léveillé found the back of the net for his ninth goal of the season, Kyle Farrell and Pierre-Luc Dubois picked up the assists.
Cape Breton took a 2-0 lead as Farrell fired a rocket beating Titan goaltender Daniel Vautour on the glove side for his 36th goal of the season shorthanded at 19:20 of the opening frame, a goal which chased the netminder from the game. Maxim Lazarev and Duncan MacIntyre added the helpers on the goal.
Bradley Lalonde extended the Screaming Eagles lead as he netted his seventh goal of the season on the power play at 7:52 of the second period, Farrell and Léveillé recorded the assists.
Acadie-Bathurst cut the Cape Breton lead to two as rookie Jordan Maher’s backhander beat Screaming Eagles goaltender Miguel Sullivan at 13:29 of the middle frame, Guillaume Brisebois and Christophe Boivin found the score sheet with the helpers.
The Screaming Eagles regained the three goal lead as Lazarev buried his 24th goal of the season at 15:31 of the second period, Stephen Anderson and Marcus Hinds were given credit with the assists on the goal.
Cape Breton took a 5-1 lead 18:02 of the middle stanza as Evgeny Svechnikov scored his 20th goal of the season on the power play, Hinds and Olivier LeBlanc were awarded with the helpers.
Alexandre Gosselin gave the Screaming Eagles a 6-1 lead as he buried a rebound for his seventh goal of the season at 17:17 of the third period, Phélix Martineau and Jacob Smith had the assists on the goal.
The Screaming Eagles added another goal at 19:39 of the final frame as Smith scored his sixth goal of the season, Dillon Boucher had the lone helper.
Sullivan made 18 saves in the win for Cape Breton, his record improves to 13-8-1-1. Vautour turned aside eight of 10 shots, before being replaced by Reilly Pickard, who stopped 22 of 27 shots in his 40:40 of relief. Vautour was tagged with the loss, his record falls to 3-6-0-0.
The Screaming Eagles are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, when they host Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Frédérik Gauthier and the Rimouski Océanic. Game time is 7 p.m. at Centre 200.
