Eric L’Italien received the Guy-Lafleur Awards of Excellence
The Montreal Canadiens and Molson announced last June 5th the recipients of the Guy-Lafleur Awards of Excellence and Merit for the 2002-03 season. The awards are presented annually to amateur hockey players who have best combined a level of excellence in hockey and academics.
The program was created in 1985 to encourage sports and academics excellence for all players within the four major amateur hockey leagues in Quebec, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), the Quebec member schools of the Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS), the Midget AAA Hockey League and the Junior AAA Hockey League.
The winners are selected by a jury composed of representatives from the sports media and the hockey and education communities. The recipients of the Guy-Lafleur Awards of Excellence will be awarded a $6,000 scholarship given out over a 3-year period. The winners of the Guy-Lafleur Awards of Merit will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship.

QUEBEC UNIVERSITY SPORTS – EX-AEQUO
For a second time since the inception of the awards, two candidates were selected in the Quebec University Sports category:
Bruno Lemire of the McGill Redmen – The 22-year old centre maintained a 3.65 average in Education – Kinesiology at McGill University, recording 36 points (9-27-36) in 31 games with the Redmen in 2002-03.
Patrice Thériault of the Concordia Stingers – The 22-year old defenceman maintained a 3.75 in a Major at the John Molson School of Business, at Concordia University. With the Stingers in 2002-03, he recorded 21 points (6-15-21) in 29 games, and 20 points (5-15-20) in OUA (Ontario University Athletics) conference games.

QUEBEC MAJOR JUNIOR HOCKEY LEAGUE
Éric L’Italien of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies – The 20-year old right winger recorded 27 points (11-16-27) in 70 games with the Huskies in 2002-03. A student in Human Sciences at the Cégep de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue, he maintained a 86,5% average.

QUEBEC MIDGET AAA HOCKEY LEAGUE
Sébastien Bisaillon of the Amos Forestiers – At age 16, he maintained a 80% average in Grade IV at the Polyvalente La Forest d’Amos. The young defenceman recorded 43 points (6-37-43) in 40 regular season games and 17 points (1-16-17) in 15 playoff games in 2002-03.
QUEBEC JUNIOR AAA HOCKEY LEAGUE
Daniel Pharand of the La Plaine Cobras – The 19-year old centre maintained a 90,2% average in Natural Sciences at the Collège de Terrebonne, and recorded 30 points (12-18-30) in 49 games with the Cobras in 2002-03.
