Eagles fly-high over Huskies

A four goal second and third period led the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles to a 9-4 victory over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on Saturday night at Centre 200.
With the win the Screaming Eagles have now won their last two games while the Huskies have dropped their last five contests.
Leading the way for the Screaming Eagles who improve to 11-13-0-1 on the season was Montreal Canadiens prospect Morgan Ellis, he recorded two goals and two assists in the win for Cape Breton. Denis Kindl also had a pair of goals for Screaming Eagles while David Rose, William Carrier, Logan Shaw, Dany Potvin and Cory MacIntosh added single markers in the contest. Alexis Bernier, Sven Andrighetto, Jean-Sébastien Dea and Dillon Fournier netted goals for the Huskies who fall to 7-18-1-1 on the season and remain one point up on P.E.I. for the final playoff spot.
Cape Breton got the scoring started at the 8:29 mark of the opening period as David Rose squeezed one between Huskies’ goaltender Robin Gusse’s glove for his sixth of the season, William Carrier and Jonathan Brunelle recorded the assists. Rouyn-Noranda would tie the game up at one before the first period was over as Alexis Bernier netted his fourth goal of the season beating Screaming Eagles goaltender Alexandre Véronneau on the blocker side at the 9:19 mark of the period, Steven Mercier added the lone assist on the goal.
In the second period, The Screaming Eagles would take a one goal lead as Denis Kindl buried his 10th goal of the season at 3:47, Loic Leduc and William Carrier were given credit for the helpers. Just 14 seconds later captain Morgan Ellis put the Screaming Eagles up by two as he split the Rouyn-Noranda defense for his sixth goal of the season, Sébastien Payette and Kyle Farrell picked up the helpers on the goal. William Carrier would give Cape Breton a 4-1 lead at 6:52 as David Rose found Carrier breaking hard to the net, Carrier would make no mistake for his eighth goal of the season, Rose and Morgan Ellis added the helpers. Morgan Ellis put Cape Breton up 5-1 at the 6:57 mark of the period as he fired a rocket from the point beating Huskies goaltender Jeffery Noonan on just the first shot he faced after replacing Robin Gusse following Carrier’s goal, the goal was Ellis’ second of the game (seventh of the season) just two seconds into the powerplay, Kyle Farrell was given the only assist on the powerplay marker. Rouyn-Noranda cut the Screaming Eagles lead to three as Sven Andrighetto buried his team-leading 13th goal of the season on the powerplay at the 8:00 mark, Dillon Fournier and Jessyko Bernard picked up the assists. The Huskies would pull to within two as Jean-Sébastien Dea scored his first career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League goal at 16:42, Alexis Bernier and Maxime St-Cyr were awarded the helpers.
In the third period, Just 14 seconds into the period with Loic Leduc in the penalty box for cross-checking, Logan Shaw netted his fourth goal of the season on a breakaway shorthanded to give the Screaming Eagles a 6-3 lead, the goal was unassisted. Rouyn-Noranda would get to within two goals yet again as former first overall pick Dillon Fournier found the back of the net for his fifth of the season at the 6:55 mark of the period, Denis Kamaev and Justin Guénette would get the assists. The Screaming Eagles would take a 7-4 lead as Napierville, Quebec’s Dany Potvin fired home his ninth goal of the season beating Noonan on the glove side, David Rose and Denis Kindl were given credit for the assists. Cory MacIntosh put Cape Breton up 8-4 as he scored his sixth goal of the season on shot that he did not get much on but somehow beat Jeffery Noonan on the five-hole, Logan Shaw and Kyle Farrell picked up the helpers. The Screaming Eagles would add another goal before the contest was over as Denis Kindl fired home his 11th goal of the season at 14:43, Morgan Ellis was given the lone assist on the goal.
Alexandre Véronneau made 30 saves in the win for Cape Breton, his record improves to 7-9-0-0 while Robin Gusse turned aside 8 of 12 shots before being replaced by Jeffery Noonan who stopped 7 of 12 shots in relief. Gusse did pick up the loss, his record falls to 6-10-0-0.
The Screaming Eagles will host the same Rouyn-Noranda Huskies tomorrow (Sunday, November 20th) at Centre 200. Game time is scheduled for 4:00p.m. .

The game was presented by Home Depot, fans were able to get free thunder sticks on their way into the game if they wished. The game was also Cape Breton’s Diabetes awareness game, fans were given blue glow sticks to display during the opening puck drop.
Pre-game: Gracie Arsenault dropped the ceremonial puck during the pre-game ceremonies on Saturday night.
Game Misconduct for Brunelle: Cape Breton Screaming Eagles left winger Jonathan Brunelle was given a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for spearing at the 10:22 mark of the first period, Cape Breton did kill off the five minute major penalty.
First career ‘Q’ goal: Rouyn-Noranda Huskies right winger Jean-Sébastien Dea scored his first career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League goal at the 16:42 mark of the second period. Dea was drafted by the Huskies at the 2011 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League entry draft in round three #37 overall.
