Daniel Audette Signs his First Professional Contract with the Montreal Canadiens
The Sherbrooke Phœnix Hockey Club is proud to announce that 19-year-old forward Daniel Audette signed a three-year deal with the Montreal Canadiens. The Blainville native, the Canadiens’ 5th round choice (147th overall) in the 2014 draft, becomes the first player drafted by the Sherbrooke Phœnix to sign a professional contract with a National Hockey League (NHL) team in the franchise’s history.
Audette had shown steady progress since his early days in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). For the 2014-15 season, the Sherbrooke Phœnix’s no. 28 was the team’s best scorer for a second consecutive year, collecting 29 goals and 44 assists for a total of 73 points in 60 games. He was also named the CHL’s (Canadian Hockey League) third star of October last year, racking up 22 points (11 goals and 11 assists) in 11 games. The Sherbrooke Phœnix’s assistant captain also set a team record on October 24th against the Moncton Wildcats with 6 points in one game.
“I’m very happy for Daniel, it’s a big milestone for him. This contract proves that the Montreal Canadiens are satisfied with his play and his development in recent years. It’s always nice for the Sherbrooke Phœnix to see one of its players getting closer to his dream of playing at a higher level,” commented Patrick Charbonneau, general manager of the Sherbrooke Phœnix.
