Crawford Earns CHL Player of the Week Honours
Goaltender Corey Crawford of the Moncton Wildcasts is the Canadian Hockey League Player of the Week for the week ending on January 5, 2003 Each week during the regular season a CHL Player of the Week is selected based on the three member leagues’ player of the week.
In six games Crawford posted a 1.53 goals against average and had a .951 save percentage in leading the Wildcats to four wins. A native of Montreal, Crawford has a 2.52 goals against average in 32 games this season and he has been selected to play in the 2002 Home Hardware CHL Top Prospects Game in Kitchener on January 22.
Jonathan Gagnon of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies was the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Offensive Player of the Week. In eight games Gagnon recorded six goals and 14 assists for 20 points.
The Ontario Hockey League’s Player of the Week for the week ending January 5, 2003 was goaltender Peter Hamerlik of the Kingston Frontenacs. In three games last week the native of Myjava, Slovakia recorded two wins and a tie and a 2.67 goals against average. Hamerlik also posted a .927 save percentage.
Greg Black of the Seattle Thunderbirds is the Western Hockey League’s Player of the Week. In four games from December 30 to January 5 Black scored four goals and added five assists for nine points.
