CHL Players Top NHL Central Scouting Mid Term List
The Canadian Hockey League players dominated the rankings in the National Hockey League’s Central Scouting Bureau’s Mid Term rankings of players that are eligible for selection in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. The 2003 NHL Entry Draft will be held in Nashville on June 21 and 22.
A total of 25 players from the Canadian Hockey League are listed in the first thirty rankings including eight players in the top ten. Eric Staal, a centre with the Peterborough Petes, is listed as the top player while centre Dustin Brown of the Guelph Storm is ranked as the second best skater in North America that is eligible for selection in this June’s NHL Entry Draft. 23 players of the group of 25 from the CHL that are listed in the first thirty rankings will suit up in the 2003 Home Hardware CHL Top Prospects Game in Kitchener on January 22. 144 players from the Canadian Hockey League are listed among the 270 skaters ranked by the NHL Central Scouting Bureau.
Marc-Andre Fleury of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles was ranked as the top goaltender from North America that is eligible for the June draft. Fleury is one of seven CHL netminders listed in the top ten and he will be joined by Jonathan Boutin of the Halifax Mooseheads, Corey Crawford of the Moncton Wildcats and the Medicine Hat Tigers’ Kevin Nastiuk at next Wednesday’s Home Hardware CHL Top Prospects Game in Kitchener. 17 goaltenders from the CHL made the goaltenders’ rated list.
