QMJHL unveils new Mario-Lemieux Trophy

The QMJHL is proud to announce the creation of the Mario-Lemieux Trophy, which will now be awarded to the regular season’s top goal scorer.

Lemieux played for the Laval Voisins for three seasons, from 1981 to 1984, scoring 247 goals in 200 regular season games.

In 1983-84, he recorded 133 goals and 282 points in 70 outings, two single season league records that still stand today. That season, Lemieux helped the Voisins win the playoff title thanks to an impressive total of 29 goals in 14 games, before losing in the Memorial Cup final.

First overall pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1984, Lemieux entered the National Hockey League in 1984-1985 and racked up 690 goals in 915 games, all played with the Penguins. He was inducted into the QMJHL Hall of Fame in 1999.
