QMJHL introduces its safety regulations
Continuing its commitment to player safety, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) today announced new safety regulations for the upcoming 2023-2024 season. The league’s Commissioner, Mario Cecchini, revealed these measures in June, underlining the organization’s dedication to enhancing player well-being.
The elaboration of this rule includes all the regulations, programs, procedures and practices to ensure not only the highest safety guidelines for our players but also for the coaching staffs, officials and spectators.
One of the key elements of these new safety guidelines is the inclusion of new sanctions to prevent fighting. The decision to adopt these sanctions was reached with the approval from the QMJHL Members’ Assembly. The guidelines are the result of recommendations made by a committee comprised of Owners, General Managers and some staff members from the Commissioner’s Office.
These new rules show that the League is taking a proactive approach to safeguarding its athletes’ physical and emotional well-being, and are crucial to fostering a secure environment for all players.
