Angelo Esposito and Brandon Roach win Quebec Major Junior Hockey League player of the week awards
BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, October 3, 2005 (QMJHL) Quebec Remparts forward Angelo Esposito and Lewiston MAINEiacs defenseman Brandon Roach were named offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from September 26th to October 2nd.
The Remparts' rookie presently leads the QMJHL in scoring thanks to a very productive week. Esposito had seven goals and seven assists, while accounting for 78% of his team's scoring output by participating in fourteen of the eighteen goals scored during the four game span. Moreover, he got his first career hat-trick last Saturday vs. Rouyn-Noranda in a 6-4 win. His linemate, Alexander Radulov, just recently back from the Nashville Predators training camp also had quite a week, netting twelve points in four games. A quick comparison shows that Esposito (8-8-16) has accumulated one more assist than Sidney Crosby (8-7-15) after the first seven games of their rookie campaigns.
Alexander Radulov (5-7-12) of Quebec, Mathieu Aubin (5-7-12) of Lewiston and Petr Pohl (5-4-9) of Acadie-Bathurst (5-4-9) were also considered for the honour.
The defensive player award went to defenseman Brandon Roach of the Lewiston MAINEiacs. In five contests (all on the road), he had four goals and six assists, while leading his team to a 4-1-0 record. Furthermore, he scored three times on the power-play and was a healthy +2. In 54 short-handed situations, he helped his team to an 85% success rate.
Other players considered for the defensive player of the week award were goaltender David Tremblay (3-0-0; 160 MP; 1.88 GAA; .940 SAV%) of Gatineau, defenseman Mathieu Carle (1-5-6) of Acadie-Bathurst and goaltender Jérémy Duchesne (2-0-0; 120 MP; 1.50 GAA; .935 SAV%) of Halifax.
