A QMJHL alumnus honoured by the Quebec Sports Hall of Fame
Boucherville, June 22 2015 – The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League would like to congratulate Martin Brodeur on his induction in the Quebec Sports Hall of Fame.
Martin and six other sports personalities will be honoured at the 25th Edition of the Induction Gala to be held at the Club de Golf Métropolitain Anjou, in Montreal, on Wednesday, September 30th, under the honourary presidency of Mr. Marc Bergevin, Executive Vice-President and General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens.
During his three seasons with the QMJHL, Brodeur played in 163 games with St. Hyacinthe including playoffs, winning 79 games. His goals against average (3.56) and save percentage (.886) were solid numbers in the League at that time. He would make his mark as of his first season in the QMJHL, earning a spot on the League’s All-Rookie Team in 1990. An NHL career marked with exceptional achievements in front of the net, including the number of total wins in regular seasons or the record holder for shutouts but strangely enough, the number of total goals scored by a goaltender. His records and long lasting career make of him one of the greatest goaltenders in the history of the NHL. Winner of three Stanley Cups (1995, 2000 and 2003), two gold medals at the Winter Olympics (2002 and 2010) and winner of the Georges-Vézina trophy on four occasions (2003, 2004, 2007 and 2008) and the Calder trophy in 1994.
The other inductees are;
Alexandre Bilodeau (freestyle skiing)
Antony Calvillo (football)
Alexandre Despatie (diving)
Jennifer Heil (freestyle skiing)
Julie Sauvé (synchronised swimming)
Larry Smith (football)
Congratulation to all the new members.
