A difficult road trip!
The Olympiques returned home with a harvest of 1 point on a possibility of 8 following their four-game trip in the Maritimes.
They first lost by a score of 6-3 against the Oceanic of Rimouski. Raphaël Lafontaine, Rock Régimbald and Émile Poirier scored for the Olympiques. Tomas Hyka finished the evening with 2 assists. François Lacerte faced 46 shots. That game marked the returned of Rock Regimbald after 3 weeks being on the injury list.
The team then left towards Moncton where they faced the Wildcats Thursday. They lost that game 4-3. Jacob Conrad was back in the lineup after a few weeks but the Olympiques lost their defensemen Adam Janosik, with a leg injury the game before. The Wildcats took the lead 2-0 with goals scored by Scott Trask and Ryan Penny. The Olympiques hung in there and tied the game and even took the lead thanks to Jacob Conrad’s and Adam Chapman’s (twice) goals. Even with this nice come back Moncton found a way to win the game. The Saulnier brothers score back to back at the end of the second. The two goalies for the Olympiques were used during that game. Chris Clarke replaced Lacerte after the first period of play.
The next stop was in Halifax on Friday evening. The Mooseheads won 5-3 against the Olympiques. Halifax took an early lead of 3-0 thanks to a hat trick from Gabriel Desjardins. How ever the Olympiques showed their will to win by scoring 3 consecutive goals. Adam Chapman, Christian Ouellet and Samuel Courtemanche (1st goal in the QMJHL) tied the game. The Mooseheads however took back the control of the game and won it. Chris Clarke was once again asked to replace François Lacerte in the beginning of the third period. Adam Janosik was back in the lineup but it was Tomas Hyka who took his place in the stands.
The Olympiques finished their trip by playing against the Screaming Eagles on Sunday afternoon. Gatineau was able to collect 1 point during that game. They lost 4-3 in overtime. Cape-Breton took the lead 2-0 and then 3-1 but the Olympiques once again came back in the game to push it to overtime. The goals for the Olympiques came from Bruno Leblanc (1st in the QMJHL) and Robert Pelletier (1st in the QMJHL) and Rock Régimbald. Denis Kindl, a former Gatineau Olympiques player scored in overtime to give the win to his team. François Lacerte was in front of the net for Gatineau.
This trip was not easy for the Olympiques, but it allowed the younger players the chance to gain some experience in the absence of all the injured veterans.
The Olympiques will face these same Screaming Eagles this Friday, December 9th at 7h30 at the Robert-Guertin Center.
