Wildcats defeat Cape Breton 5-2
The Moncton Wildcats defeat the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 5-2 at the Moncton Coliseum Friday night.
After returning home from Cape Breton on Thursday, this marked the second meeting for the two teams this season. Conor Garland opened the scoring for the Cats early in the game at 1:11 of the first, with the assists going to Garrett Johnston and Cameron Askew. Cape Breton followed with a goal later in the period to tie it up at one a piece.
On a power play early in the second Adam Holwell added another for the Cats, followed by Conor’s second of the game to put the Cats up by two. Cape Breton would score again in the period, but Moncton responded with two more to make the final 5-2. Cameron Askew recorded Moncton’s fourth goal at the midway point in the second, followed by Garland’s hat trick goal to cap off the period!
Fortin was strong in nets tonight with 18 saves. Moncton outshot Cape Breton 34-21.
Conor Garland was named first star of the game, and Cameron Askew was named as second. Both Wildcats recording four points on the night.
The Cats next game is on Sunday October 4th as they take on the Shawinigan Cataractes at 3:00 p.m. It’s Faith and Family Day at the Coliseum, see you there!
