Q & A With Philippe Trudeau:
Q1: Tell us about your Minor Hockey career.
A1: I had a kind of rough minor hockey. I played single letter hockey almost every year in a little town named Rosemère, Que. I finally played ‘AA’ for the Select du Nord in my second year Bantam.
Q2: Where did you play your Midget hockey? Are any of your teammates from Midget playing in the ‘Q’ right now?
A2: I played my Midget hockey in Chateaugay, Que, for the Patriotes Midget ‘AAA’ hockey team. Luca Ciampini (Halifax), Julien Leduc (Val-D’or), Fredéric Gamelin and Alexandre Ranger (Baie-Comeau) and Yan Pavel Laplante (P.E.I.) are players that I played with in Midget that are in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey right now.
Q3: You were drafted by the Moncton Wildcats at the 2010 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft in round five, 85th overall. What were your thoughts on being drafted by Moncton. What was going through your mind when Moncton made their selection?
A3: I was very happy. I just wanted to get drafted, the place did not bother me. When I heard my name being called by Moncton I didn’t move right away, I was not expecting it.
Q4: Last season was your first full year in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Tell us how the experience in the league last season helped you going into the 2012-13 season.
A4: I had a lot of minutes played in 2011-212. It helped me gain experience and confidence that I believe I can bring to the team this season.
Q5: What were some things you worked on during the summer to improve your game?
A5: This summer I trained hard on and off the ice to improve every aspect of my game including speed, technique, etc.
Q6: What is your style of goaltending?
A6: I am butterfly goaltender.
Q7: Tell us about your hometown of Blainville, Que.
A7: Blainville is about 30 minutes from Montreal, Que. without traffic. The population is about 45,000 people. It is very close to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.
Q8: Tell us some interesting facts about your family.
A8: My parents are both pretty tall, my mom is 6”2 and my father is 6”4 and they were both basketball players. My sister is a musician and my brother is a soccer player. I live with my mother and my step father. I also have a step brother and he is a goaltender as well.
Q9: Who is the one person you would like to thank for getting you where you are today with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles? Why?
A9: They come in a pair. My mother and my step father, for all the time, the energy, the support and the money they put in so I can improve year after year and today play with the Screaming Eagles.
Q10: What is one thing you like about Cape Breton?
A10: Playing for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
