QMJHL takes aim at the fight against breast cancer
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), its 17 member clubs and TELUS are proud to announce its renewed commitment to the fight against breast cancer. Several initiatives have been created to generate funds which will be distributed to the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation, a Maritimes-based division or a local chapter dedicated to the fight against breast cancer.
For a third consecutive year, the QMJHL and its member clubs have developed prototype pink jerseys which will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to foundations that support the fight against breast cancer. Each team will wear their prototype jersey at a designated home game during the month of October. The first game will be held at the Georges-Vézina Centre in Chicoutimi on Friday, October 7.
“This event is a key part of our social mission,” said QMJHL Commissioner Gilles Courteau. “Our goal is to extend our support to the women afflicted by this terrible disease by generating funds through the sale of prototype pink jerseys which are worn by our players during designated games in October. Thanks in large part to the hard work of our clubs, over the past two years we were able to raise just over $240,000. I would like to thank Scott Urquhart of Reebok/CCM, our official supplier, for lending his support as well as Guy Darveau and Kevin True of SP Apparel for their continued cooperation in this endeavour.”
For a second consecutive year, TELUS will actively take part in this QMJHL fundraising initiative. True to its community-first philosophy “We give where we live”, TELUS will award $100 to the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation for every goal scored during the games dedicated to the fight against breast cancer and up to $14,000. Last year, TELUS gave $12,500 to the Foundation.
An official announcement will be made at the beginning of next month to unveil the sums generated through this endeavour.
