Alexis Morin is the QMJHL’s Scholastic Player of the Year
The QMJHL is proud to announce that Alexis Morin of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens has won the Marcel-Robert Trophy as the Scholastic Player of the Year.
Morin recently earned his CÉGEP diploma in natural sciences with an average that was close to 95%. All of this while having had to adapt to two different CÉGEP establishments: Drummondville and Chicoutimi, as he was traded from the Voltigeurs to the Saguenéens in January of 2023. Known for his outstanding organization and excellent communication skills, Morin is now aiming to study law or medicine at McGill University.
The finalists were:
Alexis Bonefon, forward, Shawinigan Cataractes
A natural sciences student at Cégep de Shawinigan, Bonefon maintained a 90% average this year and an impressive R score of 34. In 2023, he received a national scholarship from the Alliance Sport-Études in recognition of his academic excellence. The captain of the Cataractes, Bonefon now wishes to pursue his studies in kinesiology.
Mathieu Cataford, forward, Halifax Mooseheads
Cataford graduated from high school in the winter of 2023 with a staggering 97% average, despite studying in his second language, English, and having a busy fall, including an NHL training camp with the Vegas Golden Knights. He then enrolled in commerce at Saint Mary’s University, where he maintained A grades in his two courses. The Mooseheads’ top scorer this season was also a finalist for the Marcel-Robert Trophy in 2022-23.
