QMJHL won the Skills Competition against OHL
Kitchener – More than 4,000 school children were present as the OHL's Western Conference All-Stars took on the Dilio Conference All-Stars of the QMJHL in the Hershey Cup All-Star Series skills competition. Tuesday's event began with a shootout competition which was followed by a three on three game.
The shootout came down to the final two shooters as the score was tied 6-6. Steve Bernier of the Moncton Wildcats was stopped by Saginaw Spirit goaltender Tyson Kellerman, setting up the final showdown between Windsor's Kyle Wellwood and Marc-Andre Fleury of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Wellwood deked Fleury's to the glove side and slid the puck under the fallen Quebec All-Star, giving the OHL a 7-6 lead going into the three on three game.
The three on three was an exciting game filled with many great goals and super saves. The Ranger's trio of Derek Roy, Gregory Campbell and Petr Kanko scored the first goal much to the delight of the hometown crowd.
Pascal Pelletier of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar led the attack for the QMJHL All-Stars with three goals.
Miguel Delisle scored to tie the game at 18 before Derek Roy's go-ahead goal. Quebec responded with goals by Acadie-Bathurst's Olivier Fillion and Halifax's Brandon Benedict to give Quebec the late lead.
The game came once again came right down to the end as Sault Ste. Marie's Jeff Carter had a breakaway with time winding down. Fleury, a top rated prospect for the NHL Entry Draft, preserved the victory for the QMJHL's Dilio Conference with a pair of late saves, including one just seconds before the final buzzer.
The OHL's top scorers were Plymouth's Chad LaRose and Kitchener's Petr Kanko who both registered a hat trick in the losing cause.
