Julio Billia named QMJHL’s Vaughn Goaltender of the Month of January
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced that Chicoutimi Saguenéens’ goaltender Julio Billia is the Vaughn Goaltender of the Month in the QMJHL.
Each of the seven victories won by the Saguenéens this month were signed by Julio Billia. In 11 games, including seven on the road, the Saint-Léonard native posted a goals-against average of 2.23 and a .915 save percentage while receiving an average of 26 shots per game. In addition, the 20-year-old recently concluded the month of January with a shutout against the Gatineau Olympiques, stopping all 34 shots he faced. At each start, he allowed his team to compete with six games of two goals or less allocated to the opponent. He remains undefeated in regulation time in his last five games (4-0-0-1).
In January, he became the new Chicoutimi Saguenéens record-holder for the number of games in front of the team’s net. The count is now 189, as he supplanted the 186-game mark held by Rémi Bergeron January 21st in Bathurst, with a 6-4 victory.
