Boland, Fiore and Denis named the three stars of the month of January
BOUCHERVILLE, Wednesday February 1st, 2017 – Tyler Boland, Giovanni Fiore and Bruno-Carl Denis were named today, the three stars of the month of January.
The first star of the month of January is awarded to Rimouski Océanic’s forward, Tyler Boland. In 13 games, the veteran from St. John’s, Newfoundland, who is completing his fourth season with the Oceanic, amassed 30 points including 13 goals, while maintaining a +13 rating. In addition, he participated in more than 60% of the team’s offensive performance. He had five four-point game exploits, including one four-goal game against the Chicoutimi Saguenéens on January 17, in a 4-3 victory. In the last game of the month’s schedule, Boland obtained a point in a 10th consecutive game. He currently sits first among scoring leaders with an 11-point lead over Maxime Fortier of the Halifax Mooseheads (72 points). The 20-year-old is no more than eight points shy from the 200 plateau in regular season games in the league.
Cape Breton Screaming Eagles forward Giovanni Fiore is the recipient of the second star of the month of January. In 12 games, he scored 12 goals for 22 points and finished with a +17 rating, the best amongst skaters of the League. This constancy allowed Fiore to lead his team to an impressive 9-2-0-1 record, a 19-point crop out of a possible 24. He posted nine multi-point games over the past month, with a three-goal performance against the Sea Dogs in Saint John on January 15. The veteran is now the league’s top scorer, with a total of 39 goals in 43 games. On January 27th, he crossed an important plateau by scoring his 100th goal in the regular season, and sits just two points behind the 200 mark, after 263 games played during a five season lifetime in the QMJHL.
The third star of the month was handed to Rouyn-Noranda Huskies defensemen, Bruno-Carl Denis. In 11 games this month, the 20-year-old defensemen amassed 13 points, including two goals and 11 assists and finished with a +12 rating. He had his second three-point game in a lifetime in the QMJHL, January 17 against the Gatineau Olympiques, where he collected three assists. The veteran is currently the leader amongst blue-liners in the rating column with +33 and is among the best with a production of nine goals and 22 assists for 31 points in 48 games this season. His team, the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, won nine of his 11 games in the last month and are at the heart of the race for first overall, as they go for a second consecutive season title win.
