Wildcats Snap 5 Game Skid
The Moncton Wildcats end their 5 game losing streak Tuesday night with a 3-2 victory of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles at Centre 200 in Sydney NS. The Wildcats were lead by Shane Own who had a 42 save performance and Alex Saulnier who had a hat trick in the victory. Pier-Antoine Dion scored a pair for the Screaming Eagles, while Andrew Hayes stopped 22 of 25 shots in the loss.
The game got off in a fairly even start in the early moments as both teams settled into the game. Saulnier scored his first of the night at 9:27 on a 3 on 2 rush with brother Allain and Daniel Milan. Saulnier got his 2nd of the period at 18:23 on the powerplay as his cross crease pass attempt found its way to the back of the net. Shots in the first period were 11 to 11 apiece.
Saulnier completed the natural hat trick 3:56 into the 2nd period. The Cats 3rd goal seemed to wake up the Screaming Eagles as they started to generate quality scoring chances, forcing Owen to stand tall in the Cats net. Shots in the 2nd period were 17-9 in favor of Cape Breton.
The Screaming Eagles got on the board at 2:02 of the 3rd period when Dion converted on a penalty shot. Then with Cape Breton on a two man advantage Dion scored his second of the night at 12:43. Cape Breton pressed for an equalizer but Owen made a couple of outstanding saves to preserve the win for the Cats.
The Wildcats now travel to Halifax Friday night to face the Mooseheads at the Metro Centre. Puck drop is set for 7pm. Sunday, the Wildcats return to the Coliseum to face the Rimouski Oceanic. Note the start time is 7pm, not the typical 4pm Sunday afternoon start.
