QMJHL Draft Prospects: Element, Lavoie & Tardif
With the 2016 QMJHL Draft fast approaching on June 4th in Charlottetown PEI, here is a quick look at some of the potential top draft picks this year! Over the next few weeks leading up to draft day we will highlight the top 20 players that were ranked in this year’s Central Scouting Report for the QMJHL. With the Wildcats having the 8th overall pick in this year’s draft it is most definitely an exciting time for everyone involved!
#18: Shawn Element
The eighteenth ranked player this year is forward, Shawn Element; he is not one to shy away from throwing a big hit and is a strong presence at the front of the net, the sixteen year old is known to be a physical presence on the ice. Although he did miss some time this season due to injury, he was able to produce 11 goals, and 12 assists for a total of 21 points in 32 games playing for the Trois-Rivières Estacades this season in the QMAAA.
#19: Raphael Lavoie
Coming in at number nineteen on the QMJHL Central Scouting list is forward Raphael Lavoie. This 15 year-old Quebec native stands at 6’1 and weighs 172 lbs. He is a right handed centre with good vision and puck ability, making him a top 20 ranked player in the draft. Playing with the Antoine-Girouard in the QMAAA this past season, he played in 42 games, posting 12 goals and 14 assists for a total of 26 points, and in the post-season added five points during eight playoff games.
#20: Benjamin Tardif
The twentieth ranked player in this year’s QMJHL draft is Benjamin Tardif; a native of Notre-Dame-de-l’Île-Perrot he played this past season with the Châteauguay Grenadiers of the QMAAA. He is a fast skater and strong on the puck, this winger was born on January 24th,2000. The 15 year-old is a strong high energy player, in 44 games played this year he recorded 9 goals, 19 assists for a total of 28 points.
