Keith Yandle with the Phoenix Coyotes
Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett announced yesterday that the Coyotes have recalled rookie defenseman Keith Yandle from the San Antonio Rampage the Coyotes’ top minor league affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). rr
Yandle, 20, has registered two assists and four penalty minutes (PIM) in two games with San Antonio this season. rr
Yandle led the Moncton Wildcats to a first-place finish in the QMJHL and a trip to the Memorial Cup Finals last season. The 6-2, 195-pound blueliner was honored with the Emile Bouchard Trophy as the QMJHL’s best defenseman and received the Telus Trophy as the league’s defensive player of the year. Yandle was also named to the QMJHL’s First All-Star Team. rr
Yandle was selected by the Coyotes in the 4th round (105th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. rr
The former Wildcat played his first NHL game last night (October 11th, 2006) against the Detroit Red Wings and registered a shot on net. He finished the night with +/- rating of Even during his 19:57 minutes of ice time. Keith became the 16th Wildcat player to reach the NHL in the 10 years of franchise history.rr
