Wildcats Acquire Goaltender Alec MacDonald from Chicoutimi

MONCTON N.B. – The Moncton Wildcats have acquired goaltender Alec MacDonald from the Chicoutimi Saguenéens in exchange for a fourth round pick in the 2017 draft, and a fifth round pick in the 2020 draft. Born in Truro, Nova Scotia Alec spent his 2013-2014, and 2014-2015 seasons playing with his hometown Truro Bearcats of the NSMBHL; then, went on to play for Newbridge Academy in Halifax last season. The sixteen-year-old goaltender was selected 78th overall in this year’s entry draft by the Saguenéens. He will play this upcoming season with the Pictou County Weeks, Major Midget team.
Wildcats Goaltender Development Coordinator, Scott Munroe had this to say about the addition. “Alec is a player that I had ranked among the top goalies in the 2016 draft. I am extremely excited to add him to our organization. He has some tremendous upside and is a great addition to our young core.”
Director of Hockey Operations, Roger Shannon noted that Alec was already on the teams radar as of this year’s draft. ” Alec was the goalie at the draft in Charlottetown that got away on us; selected by Chicoutimi on the pick just before ours. We are quite happy to invest in a 2000 born goalie, and are really look forward to having him in our system as one of our young up and coming prospects. Over the past two years since Scott Munroe arrived, we have added some great young goalies, and Alec is no doubt another one of those guys.”
