GAME RECAP: Titan beat Mooseheads in OT thriller to win Game 2
Make that two!
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan is now 2-0 in the best-of-seven playoff series against the Halifax Mooseheads. The visiting Titan pulled away with a 2-1 overtime thriller over the Mooseheads Saturday night in Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League action at Scotiabank Centre to take Game 2 of the series. The win marks the second in as many days for Bathurst, who downed the Mooseheads 2-1 in overtime Friday to open Game 1 in Nova Scotia’s capital.
Noah Laberge and Milo Roelens scored for the Titan and Mathieu Cataford had the only goal Saturday for Halifax.
Laberge (assist Mathieu St-Onge) found the back of the net at 8:05 in the first period to give Bathurst the edge over the Mooseheads. The Titan held the lead into the third period, before Cataford (assist Dylan MacKinnon) secured the game tying goal for the home side with less than five minutes left in the frame and force overtime.
Roelens (assists Colby Huggan and Alexandre Lallier) netted the OT winner at 2:21 in extra time to lift Bathurst over Halifax. It was a repeat performance for Roelens, who had scored the OT winner Friday night as well.
For the second night in a row, Roelens was named the third Star of the Game for his overtime winning goal, and Halifax’s Mathis Rousseau was named the second star for shutting down 28 of Bathurst’s 30 shots on goal. Antoine Keller picked up the win between the pipes for the Titan and was named the first star for denying 35 of the Moosehead’s 36 shots on goal.
The Titan now return home as the series shifts to Bathurst for Game 3 and 4 Tuesday and Wednesday at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.
