GAME RECAP: Titan defeat Mooseheads in thrilling win
The Titan down the Halifax Mooseheads in front of a roaring home crowd Wednesday night in Bathurst. In their first meeting since the 2024 playoffs, the Titan continued their winning way, defeating Halifax 5-1 at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.
The Mooseheads got on the board just under a minute and a half into the game as Shawn Carrier tipped a shot past Josh Fleming to give the visitors the 1-0 lead. Halifax rookie Caylen Blake would take a holding penalty to put the Titan on the powerplay, a unit which had a 15 per cent success rate coming into this game. Colby Huggan found Dawson Sharkey across the crease to give him a wide open one-timer to knot this game up for the home side. The powerplay marker was Sharkey’s third goal of the season and third in his past four games. The two teams would go to the locker room tied 1-1 by the end of the first.
The second period was a goaltender’s duel. Fleming and Mathis Rousseau faced a combined 31 shots in the middle frame, doing everything they could to keep their respective teams in the game. Neither goalie would be solved until Huggan would tip a Sharkey shot past Rousseau for his fourth of the season. With their first lead of the game, the Titan closed the period 2-1 for the home side.
Noah Laberge, who celebrated his18th birthday Wednesday, scored Acadie-Bathurst’s third goal of the night when his point shot beat Rousseau midway through the final frame. Sharkey’s assist on the play gave him three points, tying a career high. The Mooseheads emptied their net in hopes of closing the scoring gap, but Blake Pilgrim-Edwards had other ideas. The Nova Scotia native fired a shot from his own blueline for his first goal of the season. Mathieu St-Onge would add a late goal as well. Maddex Marmulak’s assist on the goal would be his first career point in the Quebec Martimes Junior Hockey League. It was an exciting game for Titan fans as they celebrated the 5-1 win at home.
