GAME RECAP: Wildcats hand Titan third straight loss
The Moncton Wildcats handed the Titan its third straight loss of the season Friday night. In front of an energetic crowd at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre, the Wildcats downed Acadie-Bathurst 5-1 by the buzzer.
The Titan started off with the competitive edge and kept most of the offensive pressure for the first five minutes of the opening period. Moncton would strike first on a powerplay tally by Markus Vidicek. The 20-year-old, acquired from Halifax this summer, redirected it past Josh Fleming to give the Wildcats the lead, which the visitors kept heading into the first intermission.
Bathurst opened scoring halfway through the second period. David-Alexandre Coulombe drove to the net before placing a perfect rebound shot off Moncton goaltender, Jacob Steinman before Cory MacGillivray would bang home his first of the season to tie the game up at one. Less than two minutes later, Gabe Smith would slip the puck past Fleming to give the Wildcats the lead once again. Calgary Flames prospect, Etienne Morin would float a point shot past Fleming as well to double the Wildcats lead going into the second intermission.
Coming into the third period, the Titan came out with speed. Moncton forward, Loshing would take a slew footing penalty after taking out Loshing. The Titan would receive a five-minute powerplay but were unable to capitalize. Alex Mercier would score, Vidicek would add an empty netter to seal the game for the Wildcats 5-1.
The Titan are on the road Sunday when they faceoff against the Sea Dogs at TD Station.
