Veteran forward released by Mooseheads
Mooseheads General Manager Cam Russell made the difficult move of releasing a veteran player on Monday afternoon. The team parted ways with 20-year-old Andrew Shewfelt which brings the total number of players remaining on the pre-season roster to 23.
Shewfelt played three full seasons in Halifax after the team selected him in the ninth round (164th overall) in the 2013 QMJHL Entry Draft.
“These are never easy decisions to make and we’d like to thank Andrew for his hard work and dedication to the franchise,” said Russell.
The Dartmouth native had 27 goals and 31 assists for a total of 58 points in 177 career regular season games with the Mooseheads. He also scored 10 points in 30 playoff games. Shewfelt’s departure leaves 14 forwards vying for a spot on the opening night roster, while Bradley Kennedy and Anthony Sorrentino are currently the only overage players on the team. See the 23-man roster below.

The Mooseheads will finish the pre-season schedule on Friday night at the Halifax Forum when they face the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles at 7pm.
The regular season begins on Friday, September 23rd on the road against Moncton before the team returns to Scotiabank Centre for the Home Opener on Saturday, September 24th at 7pm versus Joe Veleno and the Saint John Sea Dogs.
Individual tickets will go on sale this Wednesday at 11am.
