OFFENSIVE OUTBURST FOR HALIFAX IN 7-2 WIN OVER CAPE BRETON
The Halifax Mooseheads had the offense firing on all cylinders on Tuesday night against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in a resounding 7-2 victory at Scotiabank Centre.
Maxime Fortier got the Herd off to a great start when he ripped in his 13th goal of the season on the power play just 2:44 into the contest. Cody Donaghey and Danny Moynihan were credited with the assists.
Taylor Ford added to the Halifax lead just over 10 minutes later when he forced a turnover and burst down the right side, undressing the Cape Breton defence in the process and sniped his fourth of the season as rookie Walter Flower picked up his first career point with the lone assist. The defenceman from Lunenburg would end up with two assists on the night.

The power play unit picked up another goal for the Mooseheads in the second period as Cavan Fitzgerald wired a wrist shot into the back of the net to give the home team a 3-0 advantage with what proved to be the game winner.
Anthony Sorrentino got the Eagles on the board at 12:34 on the power play with Cody Donaghey in the box for a kneeing penalty that the Moose fans felt was unjustified.
With the score sitting at 3-1, the Mooseheads exploded for four goals in the final stanza including the first career tally for 16-year-old forward Joel Bishop.
“It’s a huge relief to get that monkey off your back but the most important thing is to get the win tonight,” he said.
Bishop cut to the net after taking a pass from fellow rookie Arnaud Durandeau and fired the puck over the shoulder of Kyle Jessiman, ending the Screaming Eagles goaltender’s night after he allowed five goals on 32 shots.
The rookie from St. John’s, NL said the Mooseheads were able to contain Cape Breton’s top line of CHL player of the week Pierre-Luc Dubois, Evgeny Svechnikov and Maxime Lazarev for the most part in the victory.
“We took the body on their top line I mean they’ve been playing really well the last few games but I think we ran them down and we didn’t let them get very many chances.”
Fortier, Cavan Fitzgerald and Vince Watt also found twine in the third period as the Mooseheads improved to 10-14-3-1 on the season and snapped Cape Breton’s three-game winning streak.
Fortier was named first star of the game with two goals and an assist, while Fitzgerald’s two goals helped him earn the second star while Bishop grabbed the third star honours as a healthy Tuesday night crowd of 5,850 went home happy.
Eric Brassard earned the win between the pipes with 24 saves. The 20-year-old goaltender has stopped 93 of the last 98 shots he has faced.
