Jon Sim hired as Player Development Consultant

Halifax, NS – Halifax Mooseheads General Manager Cam Russell announced the hiring of Jon Sim as the organization’s Player Development Consultant on Thursday.
In the newly created role, Sim will be responsible for working with Mooseheads players individually as well as assisting the coaching staff in crafting development plans. Some other duties will see him review and analyze video with players while also performing on-ice skills sessions.
“We’re very excited to welcome Jon Sim as the Player Development Consultant for our hockey team,” Russell said.
“Jon brings a wealth of experience and knowledge and will work very closely with our young group of players as well as our coaching staff.”
Sim holds the Sarnia Sting franchise records for most goals (165) and most points (311) after an illustrious OHL career that led to the Dallas Stars drafting him in the third round of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. He appeared in 469 career games spanning 12 seasons in the NHL which included a Stanley Cup Championship with the Stars in 1999. He also played for the Nashville Predators, Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, Florida Panthers, Atlanta Thrashers and New York Islanders. During his long hockey career, Jon also captured the 2005 Calder Cup trophy with the AHL’s Philadelphia Phantoms and a DEL title in 2012 with Eisbaren Berlin.
The 45-year-old from New Glasgow, NS was an amateur scout for the St Louis Blues last season and was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame in 2022. He currently operates the Jon Sim Hockey programs, a hockey school in New Glasgow that is dedicated to developing young hockey players in our region.
He will join the Mooseheads as training camp for the 2023-24 season begins on Saturday, August 19th at the RBC Centre in Dartmouth. The Mooseheads will face the Charlottetown Islanders in the Home Opener at Scotiabank Centre on Friday, September 22nd. Season Tickets and 15 Game Packs are on sale now.
