Day 3 Update from Training Camp presented by Eastlink

The pace at Halifax Mooseheads rookie camp picked up a notch on Day 3 with the players going hard in the morning intrasquad game which ended in a 6-6 tie. We saw four goals from Team Green’s Bryson Boudreau, a player who didn’t get an invitation to camp until the morning of registration day on Wednesday.
American Henry Wilson also had a big day with a of pair of tallies while other goals came from Ben Wallace, Brandan Abbass, Jack Martin, Vincent Gauthier, Braeden MacPhee and Logan Crosby.
Boudreau picked up where he left off in the afternoon session with another two goals to help Team Green grab a 3-2 victory. The free agent invite from the Halifax Macs has scored eight goals in his first two days of scrimmages. Sixth overall draft pick Mathieu Cataford notched the game-winner when he broke a 2-2 tie late during three-on-three action. Henry Wilson continued his strong camp with the first goal for Team White while Merle Putnam also scored.
General Manager Cam Russell answered some of the burning questions heading into the weekend.
“There’s low numbers with our training camp so we will not be making cuts tomorrow (Saturday). We’re going to keep the players around for the intrasquad game with the veterans which I think will be nice for them,” he said.
Halifax has more American players attending camp than usual in recent memory with forward Henry Wilson on the ice along with defencemen Jake Freelove and Brady Schultz. Russell was asked if he foresees any of them sticking with the team for an extended period of time.
“You know I think all three of them have played extremely well. This has been a great experience and a bit of an eye opener for them coming up and seeing the major junior level and the speed of the game. We will sit down with those three players and their families and discuss their plans.”
When asked about the success of Bryson Boudreau during the intrasquad games, Russell joked that his scouting staff may have overlooked the Nova Scotian forward.
“Yeah, I’m wondering where our scouts were when they were watching him the last couple of years,” he laughed.
“As a last minute addition he has come in and played terrific, so we are very, very happy for him.”
The veterans are set to arrive for registration on Saturday morning at 10am and will get on the ice for practice and an intrasquad game in the afternoon. The Mooseheads will kick off the preseason on Tuesday night at 7pm at the RBC Centre versus Cape Breton. It is closed to fans but will be available to watch on the free live stream on the Mooseheads Official YouTube channel.
