Luke McPhee joins the Moose via waivers
2024-01-09
The Mooseheads filled out the roster with a waiver claim addition late Sunday when GM Cam Russell picked up forward Luke McPhee from the Cape Breton Eagles. The 18-year-old native of Cole Harbour, NS will join the Mooseheads for the remainder of the season and will suit up in his first home game on Saturday when Halifax welcomes the Quebec Remparts.
McPhee was originally a third round pick (41st overall) by the Moncton Wildcats in the 2021 QMJHL Entry Draft before being traded to the Eagles last August in a preseason deal. He has played 57 career games, scoring three goals and two assists, predominantly as a left winger. McPhee is a product of the Cole Harbour Wolfpack U18 program and has good size, standing 6-feet-tall and weighing in at 195 pounds.
“I’m familiar with Luke’s game and excited for what he can bring to our team,” said Head Coach Jim Midgley.
“He’s in great shape and I think he adds an excellent element to the roster.”
McPhee and fellow new additions Lou-Felix Denis and Jan Sprynar will be in the lineup on Saturday at 7pm when the Mooseheads entertain the Remparts in a rematch of last year’s QMJHL Finals at Scotiabank Centre. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.ca.
