MOOSE PICK 6TH IN CHL IMPORT DRAFT
The Halifax Mooseheads will add to their stable of impressive young talent when the team selects sixth overall in Tuesday’s CHL Import Draft. The team has one spot available for a European player which has been vacant since Timo Meier was traded to Rouyn-Noranda in January.
Otto Somppi of Finland currently holds the other import slot. The last time the Mooseheads held the sixth overall pick General Manager Cam Russell used it to select Nikolaj Ehlers who went on to score 49 goals as a rookie in Halifax and was eventually taken ninth overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
Only forwards and defencemen may be selected in the CHL Import Draft. Goaltenders have not been eligible since Barrie took Daniel Gibl with the 47th pick in 2014.
