Screaming Eagles edged by Wildcats
SYDNEY – A late third period goal by Kyle Tibbo proved to be the game winner as the Moncton Wildcats got by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 3-2 at Centre 200 on Friday.
Taylor Burke and Dominic Talbot-Tassi also added goals for the Wildcats, who improve to 20-10-0-2 on the season.
Clark Bishop and Bradley Lalonde replied with goals for the Screaming Eagles, who fall to 11-16-2-3 on the year.
Moncton opened the scoring at 4:31 of the first period as Taylor Burke scored his first goal as a Wildcat, fifth of the season, the goal was unassisted.
The Screaming Eagles tied the game as Clark Bishop dangled around Ivan Barbashev and beat Alex Dubeau for his 16th goal of the season at 7:37 of the opening frame, Timothé Simard and Maxim Lazarev had the lone assists on the goal.
The Wildcats regained the lead as Dominic Talbot-Tassi banged home his first goal as a Wildcat, first of the season, at 2:29 of the second period, Mathieu Olivier and Cameron Askew recorded the helpers on the goal.
Again, Cape Breton tied the game as Bradley Lalonde fired a rocket from the point beating Dubeau high on the glove side, Bishop had the lone assist.
Moncton would take a 3-2 lead and never look back as Kyle Tibbo buried a loose puck for his fourth goal of the season at 15:07 of the third period, Burke and William Bower found the score sheet with the helpers on the goal.
Dubeau made 30 saves in the win for Moncton, his record improves to 17-7-0-1. Sullivan turned aside 22 of 25 shots in the loss for Cape Breton, his record falls to 6-5-1-1.
The Screaming Eagles are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, when they host the 2015 MasterCard Memorial Cup host, Quebec Remparts, at 7 p.m. at Centre 200. Tickets are available at the Centre 200 Box Office or online at tickets.capebreton.ca.
