Bishop Powers Eagles Past Mooseheads

SYDNEY – Clark Bishop had a pair of goals and added an assist as the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles edged the Halifax Mooseheads 5-4 in front of 3,531 fans on hand at Centre 200 on Sunday.
Charles-Eric Légaré, Kyle Farrell and Jérémy Beaudry also scored single markers for the Screaming Eagles, who improve to 20-16-0-3 on the season.
Andrew Shewfelt buried two goals, while MacKenzie Weegar and Vincent Watt also added goals for the Mooseheads, who fall to 24-15-0-1 on the year.
The Screaming Eagles got on the board first as Clark Bishop found Charles-Eric Légaré parked at the side on the Mooseheads net, he made no mistake for his 16th goal of the season on the power play at 11:53 of the first period, Bishop and Maxim Lazarev were given the assists.
Halifax tied the game with a power play goal of their own as Andrew Shewfelt found a loose puck at the side of the Screaming Eagles net and buried it for his sixth goal of the season at 17:08 of the opening frame, Jesse Lussier had the lone helper on the goal.
Cape Breton regained the lead as Kyle Farrell tipped home a Jérémy Beaudry point shot for his 18th goal of the season at 15:49 of the second period, Beaudry and Légaré recorded the assists.
The Mooseheads again tied the game on the power play as MacKenzie Weegar fired home his ninth goal of the season at 18:19 of the middle period, Nikolaj Ehlers and Timo Meier found the score sheet with the helpers.
Less than a minute later, Halifax took a 3-2 lead as Shewfelt found the back of the net for his second goal of the game, seventh of the season, at 18:46 of the second period, Matt Murphy and Max Lindsay were given credit for the assists on the goal.
The Screaming Eagles tied the game on the power play as Bishop banged home his ninth goal of the season at 4:58 of the third period, Légaré and William Carrier picked up the helpers.
Cape Breton took a 4-3 lead at 5:32 of the final stanza as Beaudry fired a wrist beating Mooseheads goaltender Kevin Darveau, the goal was unassisted.
Bishop extended the Screaming Eagles lead at 13:34 of the third period as he scored his second goal of the game, 10th of the season, on a shorthanded breakaway, the goal was unasssited.
Halifax made the game interesting at 14:15 of the third frame as Vincent Watt recorded his third goal of the season to make the score 5-4, however that’s as close as the Mooseheads would come to tying the game. Shewfelt and Murphy had the helpers on the Watt goal.
Alex Bureau made 29 saves in the win for Cape Breton, his record improves to 12-8-0-2, while Darveau turned aside 22 of 27 shots in the loss for Halifax, his record falls to 5-8-0-0.
The Screaming Eagles return to the ice on Friday, January 3rd, 2014, when they travel to Bathurst, N.B., to face the Titan. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre. Game Misconduct: Cape Breton Screaming Eagles forward Cameron Darcy was given a five minute major and a game misconduct for interference during the second period.
Lussier Leaves Game: Halifax Mooseheads defenceman Jesse Lussier left the game during the second period following take a hit from Screaming Eagles forward Cameron Darcy. Lussier did not return to the game.
Final Shots On Goal: 33-27 in favor of Halifax.
Cape Breton went 2/3 on the power play, while Halifax went 3/7.
