Eagles Finish Season Opening Road Trip With Visit To Sea Dogs
The Cape Breton Eagles will look to snap a season opening losing streak as they finish their road weekend against the Saint John Sea Dogs this afternoon. It’s battle between teams with high expectations, both being listed in the CHL Top 10 in in the pre-season.
The road trip looked to be starting well for the Eagles Friday in Charlottetown, with Cape Breton holding a 1-0 lead and outshooting Charlottetown 23-11 heading into the final frame. But it was a third period that belonged to Charlottetown and a pair of empty netters gave the Islanders a 4-1 win.
Noah Jettelson provided the offense with a power play goal, the first snipe by an Eagles defenseman this season. Cole Chandler picked up an assist, as he has a point in all three Eagle games this season.
Today’s opposition, the highly ranked Sea Dogs have also been slow out of the blocks, collecting just one win in their opening three games although they earned a point in their home opener last night against Moncton, falling 4-3 in a shootout. Dylan Rozzi has been red hot for the Dogs, scoring four goals including the first two goals in the 26-27 NHL season. There’s a lot of attention on the Saint John forward core, in particular projected first round NHL draft picks Alexis Joseph & Jamie Glance. Glance is a newcomer to Saint John, having joined the club from the U.S. National U17 Team.
Last night marked the Eagle debuts for former Chicoutimi stars Liam Lefebvre and Lucas Beckman. Beckman won’t be the only NHL drafted goaltender in the building though, as in the off-season Saint John acquired Buffalo prospect Samuel Meloche from Rouyn-Noranda.
