Cats sweep home-and-home with Volts
After a flurry of moves by GM Martin Mondou over this year’s holiday trading period, the new look Shawinigan Cataractes were poised for a big second half of the season. They began the final stretch with a home-and-home series against the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
In the first game, the visiting Voltigeurs got on the board first with a goal from William Leblanc. Micheal Carcone added his 30th of the year on a powerplay later in the frame. For the Cataractes, Matthew Klebanskij along with Danny Moynihan and Athony Beauvillier scored in the opening period of play giving the home side a 3-2 lead after one.
Beauvillier added his second of the night in the second period, while Moynihan and Charles Taillon scored in the third to cap off a 6-2 win. Newly acquired Dmytro Timashov added four assists in the contest.
The two teams met on Sunday to finish off the two-game set, with the Cataractes travelling to the Centre Marcel Dionne for an afternoon tilt.
Once again the Voltigeurs scored first but the high-powered Cataractes offense was too much for them to handle. Alexis D’Aoust netted two goals in the second period while Danny Moynihan added a single to make it a 3-2 lead heading into the final frame.
Dennis Yan and Dmytro Timashov rounded out the scoring in period three for a 5-2 Cataractes win and a sweep of the home-and-home series. Timashov also picked up two assists in his second game with Shawinigan.
