Cadorette makes history in Cataractes win over Foreurs
SHAWINIGAN, Que. – Friday night the Shawinigan Cataractes began a two-game weekend homestand at Centre Gervais Auto. The Val-d’Or Foreurs and the Cataractes met in a battle of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s top two teams, with the Foreurs sitting 11 points ahead of the Cataractes for first place.
The first period was scoreless as both teams held down the fort defensively and the netminders stopped every shot that came their way.
In the second period, the home side finally broke the ice as Alex Pawelczyk potted his 19th of the season at 11:34. Helpers went to Brandon Gignac and Samuel Girard.
With under 40 seconds to go in the middle frame of the contest Anthony Beauvillier doubled the Cataractes advantage with his 26th of the 2015-16 campaign. The goal by the captain was assisted by Alexis D’Aoust and Girard, who picked up his second assist of the evening.
A scoreless third period gave the Cataractes a 2-0 win in front of a season-high crowd of 4,222 fans. Philippe Cadorette became the QMJHL’s all-time leader in shutouts with the 17th blank game of his career. He made 26 saves in the game.
