Ice’s Max Reinhart Named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Kootenay Ice forward Max Reinhart is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending May 1. Reinhart scored six goals in the final two games of the Husky WHL Eastern Conference Series with a plus-minus rating of plus-3.
Reinhart tied a WHL playoff record with five goals scored in the 7-2 Game four win over the Medicine Hat Tigers last Wednesday night to lead the Ice to the WHL Championship Series where they will now face the Portland Winterhawks. Reinhart was named the first star of the game and joins the likes of Dave Chartier (Brandon, 1981), Don Nachbaur (Billings, 1978), and Dave Kryskow (Edmonton, 1971) as the only other players to accomplish the feat. Reinhart also scored once in the 3-1 win in Game three of the series last Tuesday night.
Reinhart, a 19-year-old from Vancouver, BC, is playing in his third full WHL season with the Ice. Selected in the third round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Calgary Flames, Reinhart is tied for third in WHL Playoff scoring with 22 points in 14 games after scoring 79 points in 71 games this season.
Also considered for the award was Owen Sound Attack defenceman Matt Petgrave who scored three goals and an assist for four points in two games to lead his club to the OHL Championship Series where they will face the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors. In the QMJHL, Zack Phillips of the Saint John Sea Dogs had a goal and three assists for four points in two games to lead his club to the QMJHL Finals where they will face the winner of the Quebec Remparts and Gatineau Olympiques.
