Guard earns CHL Player of the Week honours

Goaltender Kelly Guard of the Kelowna Rockets is the Canadian HockeyrLeague Player of the Week for the week ending on January 12, 2003. Eachrweek during therregular season a CHL Player of the Week is selected based on the threermember leagues’ player of the week.r

In four games last week Guard, a native of Prince Albert,rSaskatchewan, recorded a 1.50 goals against average and a .925 saverpercentage to lead the Rockets to anrundefeated week. The highlight of the week for Guard was a 22 saverperformance in a 3-0 win over the Chiefs in Spokane on January 8. Guardrhas appeared in 32rgames this season and has a won-lost-tied record of 22-8-1 with a goalsragainst average of 2.22. The 19 year old has three shutouts this seasonrand a .902 saverpercentage.r

Ontario Hockey League Player of the Week honours for the weekrending on January 12, 2003 went to Chad LaRose of the Plymouth Whalers.rIn three games last weekrLaRose scored five goals and added three assists as the Whalers won allrthree games. LaRose was CHL Player of the Week on October 9.r

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Offensive Player ofrthe Week is Pierre-Luc Sleigher of the Victoriaville Tigres. In threergames last week Sleigher, therCHL Player of the Week on December 18, recorded eight points on threergoals and five assists. Guillaume Lavallee of the Halifax Mooseheads isrthe QMJHL DefensiverPlayer of the Week. In three games last week Lavallee recorded two winsrand a loss to go with a .40 goals against average and a .983 saverpercentage.r
